Guides for Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018

EDITORIAL STRATEGY & DESIGN • MAP DESIGN

Creating accessible guides for India’s most popular art event.

Under the curatorship of artist Anita Dube, the team behind the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018 aimed to make “The People’s Biennale” inclusive, accessible and welcoming to visitors of all ages and persuasions.

An intensive mapping exercise charted out 17 individual “fragments” or mini-narratives that comprised the curatorial approach to the whole biennale. We created a people-friendly short catalogue with a correlating map that would guide visitors to the numerous venues spread across the city of Kochi. Through the use of colour and graphic devices, the system located each art work within the physical space as well as the curatorial premise of the Biennale. With space for notes, comments and observations accompanying each art work, the catalogue serves as a personal souvenir and memory keeper for a Biennale visitor.
